10 Ways to Drive Traffic to Your Site in 10 Minutes or Less

How do you drive traffic to your site? If you’re like most people, it’s not on your list of priorities — so the answer, probably, is not very well! It’s true that if you want to get people to visit your site, you should focus on creating content they want to read and sharing it with the right people. But sometimes, it can be helpful to focus on getting them there in less than 10 minutes — whether or not they want to be there. Here are 10 ways to drive traffic in less than 10 minutes or less.

1) Check your spelling and grammar

One of my biggest pet peeves is spelling and grammar errors. It’s not that I’m a total snob who thinks every writer should be perfect—there are very few writers who are, really—but if you want your readers to trust what you have to say, take a second look before you publish. Don’t rely on your spell check; it might tell you drive is spelled correctly when it isn’t. Check for punctuation and capitalization errors, too. Take ten minutes at night to proofread your work before submitting it to an editor so it looks professional from the start.

2) Write appealing blog titles

If you’re trying to build traffic, SEO is important. While you might be tempted to throw keywords into your titles as much as possible, don’t rely on them. Instead, try and make each title more appealing for readers. For example, top blogging mistakes that most people do not know about is better than top blogging mistakes no one else knows about. A good rule of thumb is to try and create titles that naturally incorporate a keyword with some value-added material (like relevant ideas, insights or stories).

3) Create an attractive header image

As your reader begins reading your post, they’ll likely have one of two reactions: This is useful. I can’t wait to see what else it has to say! or I wonder if it will be able to keep my attention for long enough for me to get what I need from it. The more quality, interesting content you provide them with, the more likely they are to stick around and take note of your other important information.

4) Write interesting, quality content

Have you heard of SEO? If not, it’s an acronym for search engine optimization. It means that a site is created with search engines in mind: i.e., it has titles and meta descriptions—the text that shows up when you search for something online—as well as code designed to help search engines find and index relevant content. If a site wants its pages seen by people who are searching for something on Google, Bing, Yahoo!, and so on, it needs good SEO. How do you get good SEO? By creating quality content!

5) Optimize your meta descriptions

Meta descriptions are those bits of text that appear underneath a web page’s link on search engine results pages (SERPs). Since search engines read these descriptions, including your keyword in your meta description could help you rank for that term. Let’s say you own a bakery and want to rank for cupcakes. If you sell cupcakes online, and your description reads Visit our online cupcake shop, serving fresh home-baked cupcakes shipped straight from our kitchen, search engines will be more likely to include your website in search results.

6) Optimize your keywords throughout your content

Keywords are a great way to help people find your site. When writing articles, use your keywords naturally (as you would any other word). Don’t overdo it, though. These days Google is smart enough to figure out when you’re trying too hard. Just be sure your chosen keywords appear a few times within each post.

7) Submit a sitemap for Google

Google has implemented a great way to help you drive traffic back to your site: a sitemap. While it might not help you get ranked, it’s definitely worth creating one for Google and other search engines because it can improve your site’s visibility and crawl rate. A sitemap is essentially a list of URLs that lets search engines know what’s on your site and where those pages are located (most commonly known as URL structure). For SEO purposes, sitemaps help crawlers find all of your pages more easily and give them valuable information about content placement so they don’t have to spend as much time figuring out where everything is. It also helps with internal linking between pages—improving click-through rates and general user experience.

8) Share your content on social media sites

Social media has become an essential part of building a website, and it doesn’t have to be hard. While you may think that Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and other networks are too competitive for you, sites like these help people find information quickly—and they’re free. There are lots of different ways to share your content on social media sites; try each one several times and see what works best for you. The important thing is that you consistently use social media sharing; once people start following your work on social networks, more will follow if they know you’re posting regularly.

9) Find influencers and send them emails about your content.

Finding influencers and reaching out to them about your content is an effective way of driving traffic. You can find influencers on social media, comment sections of blogs, etc. Be sure you share your content with them and that it’s relevant for their audience. This can get you a new audience from an influential source. Try following these tips on how to contact bloggers . Use popular hashtags: There are many popular hashtags on social media sites that users have used millions of times. This is a good place for your content. Find out what topics are trending by searching these popular hashtags and then use relevant hashtags in your posts about those topics too!

10) Don’t stop! Create more good content consistently over time and watch as you gain an audience.

Publishing on a regular basis is one of those mantras that’s repeated so often it’s easy to forget its significance. But here’s why it matters: humans are creatures of habit and rely on stability. When your audience sees new content show up in their feed, it reassures them that you aren’t going anywhere and they don’t have to worry about missing out. If you create a great post, they’ll see it pop up again when you publish another great post. It helps establish credibility with visitors, makes them want to keep coming back for more, and ultimately encourages them to engage with you through commenting and sharing your content—both key components of growing an audience online.
